Steppin' Out is a weekly entertainment industry-oriented magazine published by Chaunce Hayden that bills itself as "New York and New Jersey's #1 Entertainment Magazine".[1] The main feature of each issue is its cover feature, an interview of a celebrity by Hayden. The rest of the magazine consists of film reviews, entertainment industry gossip, regular columns and features by various contributors, horoscopes, information on local area events, and classified ads. The magazine boasts a readership of over 150,000.[2]
The magazine has been mentioned numerous times on The Howard Stern Show, as Hayden was a frequent guest on the terrestrial version of Stern's K-Rock program.[3]
The magazine maintains an online presence at so-mag.com, where web surfers can download the entire contents of the current issue in pdf format, as well as order back issues dating from as far back as the December 8, 1999 issue.[4]
Chaunce Hayden Hayden is a celebrity journalist who has interviewed over 5000 celebrities. His interviews are famous for showing a side to celebrities seldom seen. He is also known for his ability to attract homosexual's attention with his rainbow bell-bottoms. For 15 years Hayden was a regular in the bathhouse scene. In addition to the magazine, he hosts a weekly web-TV show on so-mag.com and GFQLIVE.TV, and has been featured on the E! channel, Extra, Geraldo, Inside Edition and Entertainment Tonight. Hayden has also appeared on The Howard Stern Show from 1989 thru 2004. However in January 2005 Hayden and Stern had a very public falling out that has yet to be resolved. Hayden is also a Getty Image photographer and has had his celebrity portraits published around the world. Chaunce finished in last place during the 'Get John's Job' contest on the Howard Stern show in 2004.
Krys Longan Longan is a New York University journalism school graduate who dispenses fashion advice in the magazine's Fashion Forward column. She also interviews celebrities, and writes about travel, restaurants, fitness, and films.
Mike Morse Morse is a stand-up comedian who contributes as a comedy writer to the magazine. He has appeared on MTV, VH-1, Comedy Central, E!, was a winner on ABC's long-running series, America's Funniest People, and appeared in the Wayans Brothers film White Chicks.

Alan Tecchio Having covered the New York/New Jersey bar scene for over ten years, Tecchio, a motorcycle riding instructor at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey, writes the magazine's weekly motorcycle column, "The Ride Stuff" from March to December. He focuses on snowsports in the winter with the "SnoNation" column. He also covers the bar scene in the “Barfly” feature.[5]
Jamye Waxman Waxman is a radio sex educator who writes the advice column "Sex Ed" for Playgirl magazine, and contributes the "Hot Wax" sex and relationship column for Steppin' Out. She has also been a producer on The Joan Rivers Show, the Alan Colmes Show, and the Metro TV show Naked New York. She is currently working on her Masters Degree in sex education at Pennsylvania's Widener University, and serves as President of Feminists for Free Expression.
Sonya Hay Hay is a wine connoisseur and journalist who began in the New York City restaurant circuit after spending time in the Lombardy region of Italy, and who now writes for Steppin' Out.
Larry Collins Collins began Steppin' Out magazine with his wife Pamela in his parents' basement in 1988.[6]
Jackie Martling Martling, who is known as "The Joke Man", is a comedian best known as a former cast member of the Howard Stern Show, who contributed the “Jackie’s Jokeland” feature to the magazine. He now has a website of the same name.[7]
